for the future of the breed. Not only to improve their dog’s accomplishments in the show and performance rings, but to

All Cockers used in a breeding program should be tested yearly and be free of inherited cataracts and PRA by a Veterinary Ophthalmologist.
Cockers used in a breeding program should have their hips/patellas x-rayed and evaluated by OFA. Only then animals who receive a rating be included in a breeding program.

New advances in DNA testing of genetically inherited diseases has greatly improved the health of pure bred dogs. Now low-cost
genetic screening enables breeders to test
dogs prior to breeding. ASC-F is currently working with the University of Pennsylvania
and is focusing on Cataract Research in
Cocker Spaniels.
